Culinary Arts – Are you creative? Do you enjoy cooking? Do you thrive in a team environment?

If so, Culinary Arts & Restaurant Management might be just the career for you! The Heights Consortium Culinary Arts Program in partnership with Cuyahoga Community College (Tri-C) is a two-year, ProStart Certification Course that provides you with basic culinary essentials and foodservice management skills including customer relations, cost controls, basic accounting principles, marketing, purchasing, inventory, team building skills and communications.

These skills will be developed and refined in the new Tri-C Hospitality and Restaurant Management School located on the grounds of the eastern campus. Also, ProStart gives you the opportunity to obtain additional scholarships and potential employment opportunities.

Recommended Skills and Traits for Success:

Basic Math – including measuring using cups, quarts, gallons, fractions, and spoons. Converting percentages to decimals (vice versa), computing time problems, read and use a scale and counting money.
Reading/Writing/Communications – Read and write measurements words and their abbreviations, read for information and relate to various topics, follow multiple step directions, and interpret charts/diagrams.
Physical – Fine Motor, Gross Motor, Manual dexterity, good hand/eye coordination. Able to lift minimum of 30 pounds and stand on feet for at least 5 hours at a time. *Will be required to pass CPR/First Aid certification and complete required work hours in order to earn the National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation’s (NRAEF) ProStart and other related certifications.
